How to Maintain Your TOP-1 Position: A Practical Guide

Welcome readers to the SpySERP blog! Let's imagine a situation:

One of your main goals was to get to the TOP for high-frequency keywords. You did it! Now you are in the TOP-1 for a group of high-frequency queries, you get good traffic and clients. But besides you, all your competitors are trying to get to the TOP. And sometimes they make every effort to get to the TOP-1 (read - in your place).

What to do in this case? How to maintain positions in TOP-1 (TOP-2-3-4, etc.)? What should be done to prevent competitors from “knocking out” you from the first position? Read on for our practical guide that will help you with this.

3 steps to protect your positions in the TOP
Note: Technical SEO plays a huge role in website on page seo service ranking. In this guide, we will be looking at issues from the content and link building perspective, but you should not forget about technical SEO (including  On-Page SEO ).

1. Make your content more attractive to readers
In other words, your content should always be fresh and you should always be looking for ways to improve it.

In turn, improving the content (and expanding the relevant semantic core) on a page will allow you to rank for more keywords using the same page.

1.1 Analyze your competitors' content and do better
Your content is the best, search engines and users like it. But that doesn't mean your competitors' content is garbage.

This is why you should go through the top 10 for your main keyword and look at your competitors' content, answering the following questions:

Do they provide good examples?
Is the content visually appealing?
Do they provide detailed answers, clear and step-by-step instructions?
Have they done their research? Is there evidence to support their content?
What do their readers say in the comments? What is their argument?
In order to stay on top, your content must be constantly updated, becoming more useful and relevant to the current period of time.

1.2 Add new sections to your content based on data from Google Search Console
Google Search Console is one of the best tools that gives you information about which keywords you can (and should) optimize your content for. How can you find out?

Go to GSC and click “Performance”:

Performance Report
Add a filter containing top ranking URLs:

Ctr In Performance Report 2
Sort by impressions and see which keywords received the most impressions but few clicks (i.e. Keyword with low CTR):

Ctrl 4
Use these keywords for further optimization and as ideas for new sections of your content.

2. Continue building links as before
A large number of links is not a 100% guarantee of being in the TOP-1 on a permanent basis. However, a high-quality link mass, all other things being equal, can play a huge role, since links are still one of the most important ranking factors.
